Is Your Home Safe? Why You Need a Home Security AuditSeptember 27th, 2017 | by Provision Home | in Safety Advice
Doing a home security audit could mean the difference between having a safe, secure home, or having a home open to hazards and predators. A proper home safety evaluation is the thorough assessment of the potential hazards in and outside of your home, including anything that can cause injury, emergency, or anything that could jeopardize the safety of you or your belongings. Here is how to get started to inspect your home for safety and security.
Break the Audit into Areas
Because a home audit can include many aspects, it may be worthwhile to break it up into topics, or into specific areas of the home. Depending on the size of your home, you may wish to break it up into indoor vs. outdoor, upstairs vs. downstairs, or by room. You may choose to instead break it up by type of audit – like fire hazards, or security concerns.
Set a Goal to Check Everything
The goal of the audit is to leave no hazard unresolved – therefore, you should set your goal to check absolutely every aspect of your home. Even seemingly-mundane things like indoor plant toxicity could become important at a later date.
During your audit, you will inevitable find things that need changed or repaired. It may be helpful to group these to-dos into categories to help you organize when and how to fix them. One method of categorizing them could be to decide between whether they are related to at-home safety, home security, or emergency preparedness. From there, you can rank each to-do in each category with how quickly it needs to be fixed or further looked into.
Ensuring your family and home’s safety and security is one of the most important things as a homeowner. In order to keep everyone safe and secure, it may be beneficial to do a home audit to identify any potential hazards.
